No More Drive-Thrus For Me

October 15th, 2008 at 01:12 am

A few days ago i posted about my change experiance at a national chain burger joint. All's well that ends well.

Today i did it again. I went thru a drive-thru, even though i know better, even though every fiber of my being said to walk in.

A bit of backround: As most you may or may not know I am a Postman. We had yesterday off for "Colombus Day" (or as i prefer to call it "Native American Day" *ty South Dakota*).

Anyway whenever we have a Monday off it means all the mail you would have gotten Monday is piled up on top of Tuesday's regular mail. Colombus Day is also historically the heaviest mail day of the year. It's the un-official start of the Christmas catalog mailing season (you may or may not have noticed a few extra catalogs today).

The long and the short of it is we were extremely busy, and i was worn out by the time i finished. I hadn't had anything to eat since 4.30 am, I got off at 4.45 pm.

Drive-thru to the rescue. yea right. My order was simple, 2 cheese burgers, fries and a diet coke. They were quick and friendly and i drove my weary butt off without checking my order. Mistake.

I was on the inter-state when i reached into the bag and grabbed one, took a bite, and almost broke my teeth. Have you ever bitten into something that wasn't there? it was a picture perfect cheese burger with one small exception. No burger. The bun was there, the ketchup, the pickle, the onion even the cheese was there...no burger.

I was less-then happy to say the least. I called the 800 number on the bag and told the lady on the other end my story. Do you know what she said? "are you sure there was no burger in your sandwich?". Thank goodness i wasn't driving, i would have surely wrecked my car by driving it off the road laughing so hard. She took all my info and apologised several times promised that she would "relay" my experiance to the resturant owner and managers.

So I have made myself this very solemn vow: NO MATTER HOW HUNGRY, HOW PRESSED FOR TIME, OR WHAT SPECIAL OFFER IS ONLY AVAILABLE A THE DRIVE-THRU...I AM NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE DRIVE-THRU ANYMORE

p.s. I still think Joe Pesci has drive-thrus nailed down "they **** you in the drive-thru"

We sit there at the window and check every single item of our order before we leave. My son counts his nuggets. My daughter makes sure her burger is plain. We all make sure our drinks don't taste like carbonated water but like actual soda. We make sure they actually filled all the fry boxes up and not just halfway. We make sure we do indeed have straws despite their reassurance that they're in the bag. It ticks the employees off no end, but I don't care. I'm not going back around that line again because they screwed up and they've done that far too many times. And I don't want to have to go in and get it fixed in the rain, either. They can wait until I'm sure it's right.

lol. that sure must be frustrating! i don't really eat at fast food places so I haven't ever had that problem but I have heard of people who have. I think it's ridiculous that these places are KNOWN for their bad service and shoddy meals, and yet people still give them their money!!

And they never give you salt either. I always go inside too.

Oh my goodness, I've never heard of that (no burger) before! I learned when I was a child to ALWAYS check the bag before driving away. That's because I don't eat cheese but you can bet they always put cheese on what I order. So I don't really have this problem because I always check. DH checks too and once he got a burger with onion rings on it. He just said "SWEET!!!" and drove off. He never thought to order it like that and was thankful someone else did. Sure hope THEY checked their order before driving off because I'm sure they got what he ordered.

This does usually mean one of us has to go inside to complain though. Like last night we grabbed fast food - you think they could give us forks to eat the mashed potatoes with?????

Wow, that's pretty bad. I drive off becus i don't like to keep others behind me waiting. Same thing in the grocery store; i'd prefer to pay exact change, so as to get rid of my 5 pounds of loose change, but i'm afraid other shoppers are gonna get ticked off.

hmmm I think your burgerless burger is a rare problem, at least I've never had such a bad experience. But am not a big frequenter of fast food, nor drive throughs (maybe a couple times a month or less).

actually i was thinking about this post today, and remembered something funny: i have a vegetarian friend that craves macdonals - a cheeseburger without meat! haha.
so maybe someone ordered that, and got your order mixed up with them! (maybe a vegetarian out there got a burger with meat on it after they had ordered it without!)

this whole year i've been through a drivethrough once, to get a drink Smile
